Greene, NY - Volunteer firefighters from the Greene Fire Department and neighboring Genegantslet Fire Company spent Wednesday connecting with local youth during an interactive fire prevention and life safety presentation at Greene Primary School.

On October 7, 2026, personnel from both departments visited classrooms to engage students during National Fire Prevention Week. Responders walked through foundational home safety principles, explaining simple preventive measures, how to recognize household hazards, and the vital steps children should take if faced with an emergency at home or in school.

Firefighters also demonstrated basic exit planning and emergency communication protocols, making sure students understand how to safely evacuate and interact with emergency personnel without fear.

The collaborative visit highlighted the ongoing community commitment of both volunteer departments, giving Chenango County’s youngest residents practical tools to stay safe and confident during an unexpected fire emergency.
