Lisbon, ME — September 13 — Members of the Lisbon Fire Department participated in two days of low-angle rope rescue training provided by Training Technologies Inc., on September 12 and 13.The training sessions covered the use of rope rescue equipment, knot tying techniques, and systems for moving rescuers or patients over sloped ground.

Throughout the training, firefighters reviewed various rescue knots, rope equipment, and established procedures.

They were also introduced to raising and lowering systems designed for use on sloped terrain, where rescuers might need to reach a patient or transport them to a safer area.

Low-angle rope rescue is employed when standard methods are not practical due to challenging terrain. Such situations can occur on hillsides, embankments, or other uneven surfaces. Rescue teams are required to choose appropriate equipment, set up secure anchor points, and manage the movement of both rescuers and patients.

Raising and lowering systems allow crews to handle loads safely and effectively. Good rigging practices, clear communication, and thorough safety checks help minimize risks during these operations. Technical rescue training standards emphasize equipment inspection, knot selection, anchor systems, and coordinated team efforts.

The training provided Lisbon firefighters with a chance to refresh their existing skills and learn new techniques for working on sloped terrain. Ongoing hands-on practice helps emergency responders keep their skills sharp and ready for incidents that call for specialized equipment and teamwork.
