Waterford, VT — September 15 — The Waterford Volunteer Fire Department worked with the Concord Fire Department to conduct self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA) training at Waterford School.Firefighters from both departments participated in hands-on exercises meant to enhance their abilities in interior firefighting and emergency response situations.
The training covered various activities such as search and rescue missions, emergency exit procedures, and techniques for finding and tackling fires inside structures. During the session, firefighters practiced realistic scenarios while using SCBA gear, which provides clean air in situations where smoke and other dangers make regular breathing unsafe.
The search and rescue drills gave firefighters a chance to practice navigating through buildings, finding people in need, and staying alert to their surroundings. Emergency exit practices also helped them understand how to identify escape routes and adjust when conditions in a building change.
Interior fire exercises enabled firefighters to refine their teamwork and perform fire suppression actions while wearing protective gear. Training together also offered opportunities to improve communication and get better acquainted with the practices of other departments they might assist during emergencies.
The Vermont Division of Fire Safety highlighted SCBA use, correct equipment handling, and ongoing training as essential elements of being ready for emergencies. Consistent hands-on training helps fire departments keep these skills sharp and prepare for the challenges of real emergency situations.
The combined training session showed the dedication of both departments to practical learning and collaboration.
By working side by side, firefighters from Waterford and Concord improved their emergency preparedness and ability to support their communities.
