Heavy Iron in Foul Weather: Tri-Department Crews Push Through State Aerial Training

Yorktown, NY - Despite punishing wind and rain from the remnants of a coastal nor’easter, volunteer firefighters from Yorktown Heights, Bedford Hills, and Purchase pushed forward through intensive hands-on aerial operations on Sunday, September 27, 2026.

Yorktown Heights Fire Department hosted the ongoing New York State Aerial Operator Course, bringing members from all three departments together to master elevated apparatus handling under adverse weather conditions.

Crews conducted extensive flight time, outrigger stabilization, and high-reach maneuvering, logging critical practical training hours before the shift pivoted into a series of real-world emergencies across northern Westchester.
