Auburn Firefighters Train to Rescue People Trapped Beneath Vehicles

Auburn, Mass. — September 20, 2026 — On-duty members of Group 2 with the Auburn Fire-Rescue Department conducted hands-on training focused on extricating a person trapped beneath a vehicle.
During the session, firefighters practiced several techniques for safely lifting or stabilizing a vehicle and accessing a simulated patient. Crews used specialized rescue equipment carried on the department’s engine companies and Rescue 1.
The training was designed to help members become familiar with available tools and procedures for situations in which a person is pinned beneath a vehicle. These incidents can require careful coordination, vehicle stabilization and controlled movement to reach and remove the patient safely.
The department also participates in the District 7 Regional Technical Rescue Team, which brings together trained personnel and equipment from several communities for specialized rescue incidents. Auburn supplies a heavy rescue vehicle, technical rescue personnel and medical specialists to the regional team.
