Mass. — September 16–17, 2026 — Auburn Fire-Rescue Department Lieutenant Bill O’Connor and Firefighter Ian Haggerty attended the 2026 Massachusetts Fire and Life Safety Education Conference, joining fire service professionals from across the state for two days of training and professional development.

The 31st annual conference was presented by the Massachusetts Department of Fire Services and held at the Wellsworth Hotel and Conference Center in Southbridge. This year’s theme, “ Heating Up Safety: From Hot Topics to Cooler Solutions,” focused on fire and life safety education.

O’Connor and Haggerty attended on behalf of Auburn Fire-Rescue. Their participation supported the department’s ongoing work in fire prevention and public education, helping residents understand hazards and take steps to protect themselves. The conference was organized by the Massachusetts Department of Fire Services. No mutual-aid departments were involved in the reported activity, as this was a training and education event rather than an emergency response.
