Warren, RI — October 4 — Members of the Warren Fire Department Rescue Squad participated in training with the department’s Marine Unit on the Warren River to enhance their knowledge of emergency medical care in a marine setting. The session highlighted the difficulties emergency crews might encounter when delivering patient care on the water.
Marine emergencies needed close coordination between rescue workers and boat operators. Responders had to account for how the vessel moved, how to reach the patient, the available space for working, and the safe way to move patients from a boat to the shore or another emergency service.
The combined training allowed Rescue Squad members to gain more experience with marine operations and the equipment used by the Marine Unit. Working together helped them understand their roles and how they could assist each other during water-related emergencies.
The Warren Fire Department runs a Rescue Squad that offers emergency medical and rescue services to the community.
Training across different units helped prepare members for situations that require skills beyond typical land-based responses.
The department expressed gratitude to Warren Harbormaster Joe Silva and Assistant Harbormaster Eli Wolfang for their time on a Sunday morning to help with the exercise. Their involvement supported the training and strengthened the link between emergency responders and harbor staff.
Ongoing joint exercises helped departments spot challenges, improve communication, and get ready for incidents that involve various response teams. The session on the Warren River supported the department’s ongoing efforts to stay prepared for emergencies happening on and around the water.
