Readsboro, VT — September 11 — The Readsboro Fire Department honored the lives lost and the sacrifices made by emergency responders on September 11, 2001, as the nation marked 25 years since that defining day for emergency services and the country.
On that morning, nearly 3,000 individuals lost their lives in attacks in New York City, at the Pentagon, and near Shanksville, Pennsylvania. Firefighters, police officers, emergency medical technicians, and other emergency personnel rushed to assist those in need. Many responders gave their lives while performing rescue efforts, while others continued their work in the days that followed.
For the fire and emergency medical services community, the anniversary was a moment to reflect on those who answered the call, the families who mourned their loved ones, and the survivors who carried the lasting impact of that day. The events also highlighted the critical role of teamwork, training, communication, and coordination during major emergencies.
Twenty-five years later, the lessons from September 11 remain deeply embedded in the history of emergency services.
The bravery and sacrifice of responders continue to be acknowledged by departments and communities throughout the country.
The Readsboro Fire Department participated in the broader emergency services community in paying tribute to those who served and those who were lost. Their dedication and sacrifice stand as a lasting testament to the commitment to serving and protecting others.
