Hinsdale, NY — September 22 — Members of the Hinsdale Volunteer Fire Department organized a major training exercise with the Lyncourt Volunteer Fire Department, Mattydale Fire Department, and junior program members.

The training focused on responding to a large motor vehicle accident and the difficulties that crews might encounter when dealing with multiple injured individuals. Participants practiced vehicle inspection, securing the vehicle, providing patient care, and safely removing trapped individuals.

The training allowed participants to go through different phases of a vehicle rescue situation while working together with members from other departments. These skills are essential during serious collisions, when responders must evaluate the scene, secure damaged vehicles, and ensure the safe removal of patients.

The exercise also provided junior program members with the chance to engage in a department-wide training session alongside experienced personnel.

After the exercise, 37 members from the participating agencies came together to talk about the training, share what they learned, and have dinner. This discussion allowed them to review the exercise and exchange ideas with other emergency responders.

Working together in joint training helped the departments develop stronger working relationships and improve coordination ahead of potential emergencies. Collaboration between neighboring agencies can be crucial when incidents require extra personnel and resources.

The exercise emphasized the importance of ongoing training, teamwork, and effective communication in preparing emergency service members to serve their communities.
