Thorndale, PA — September 26 — Seven members and staff from the Thorndale Fire Company completed a 16-hour Advanced Line Systems Water Rescue course taught by Bill Elder. The training occurred during a Nor’easter, which served as a timely reminder of the importance for emergency responders to be prepared for water-related emergencies.

The Advanced Line Systems Rescue course focused on specialized methods used in complex water rescues.

As outlined by the Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission, the course covered topics such as rope-based rescue systems, mechanical advantage setups, zip-line systems, and tethered rescuer techniques. These skills enable trained personnel to choose and operate appropriate rescue equipment in difficult situations.

The training offered Thorndale Fire Company members a chance to enhance their knowledge and develop skills for technical rescue operations. Water emergencies often involve unpredictable conditions, making proper training, correct equipment selection, and responder safety essential components of effective rescue planning.

The company conducted the training at the indoor swimming pool located at Coatesville Area Senior High School.

Thorndale Fire Company expressed gratitude to the Coatesville Area School District for allowing access to the facility for the training session.

The session on September 26 emphasized the importance of ongoing technical training and collaboration with community partners. The company also extended its congratulations to the seven participants for completing the course and for their dedication to improving their rescue abilities.
