Pittsford, NY — September 29 — Members of the Pittsford Fire Department kept improving their ability to handle vehicle fires by participating in regular training sessions that focused on changes in vehicle technology and emergency response techniques.
Vehicle fires were among the many incidents the department dealt with, including motor vehicle crashes, structure fires, and other emergencies.
As vehicle designs and construction materials evolved, firefighters had to stay updated on their knowledge and skills.
Modern cars often have different fuel systems, stronger materials, and high-voltage batteries. These changes can influence how fire crews approach a fire, protect themselves, and manage dangers at the scene.
The National Fire Protection Association and other fire service groups provide training materials to help emergency workers understand the risks associated with hybrid and electric vehicles.
New York State also offers guidance for emergency crews dealing with electric vehicle fires, such as the importance of considering battery dangers and the potential for continued heating even after the fire is out.
The Pittsford Fire Department conducted regular training exercises to keep firefighters skilled and prepared.
These hands-on sessions allowed them to review procedures, practice using equipment, and enhance teamwork before responding to real emergencies.
Continuous training was essential for ensuring firefighter safety and delivering effective service to the community.
