Pittsford, NY — September 24 — Members of the Pittsford Fire Department participated in live fire training with assistance from the Brighton Fire District and Department. They used the Brighton facility to practice the skills required for structural firefighting.
Even though Pittsford had fewer severe fires compared to some nearby communities, regular training was still essential for the department's readiness.
These live fire exercises allowed firefighters to train in controlled environments, apply what they had learned, and improve their decision-making during actual fire situations.
Structural firefighting involves challenges like extreme heat, smoke, poor visibility, and unpredictable fire behavior.
Training sessions helped crews work as a team, follow safety protocols, and handle tasks while wearing protective gear. These exercises also gave them a chance to practice communication and coordination during interior firefighting operations.
The Brighton Fire Department supports training and emergency response through a mix of full-time and volunteer staff.
Their responsibilities include tackling structural fires, conducting rescue operations, and handling other emergency situations.
The Pittsford Fire Department expressed gratitude to the Brighton Fire District and Department for allowing them to use their training facility.
This opportunity helped firefighters keep their skills sharp and highlighted the value of consistent, hands-on training.
Continuous practice enabled firefighters to stay proficient and ready to respond safely and effectively in the event of serious incidents.
