Egypt Firefighters Practiced Deck Gun and Aerial Operations

Fairport, NY — September 21 — Members of the Egypt Fire Department carried out an evening training session aimed at setting up and using a ground-based deck gun, as well as deploying the department’s aerial ladder truck.

This exercise allowed firefighters to practice positioning and operating equipment for situations where a large volume of water is needed. Deck guns are capable of delivering high amounts of water and can be useful in large fires where a strong, high-flow stream is necessary.

Firefighters also practiced deploying the aerial apparatus, which provides a higher vantage point for firefighting activities.

According to the department’s records, Tower 330 is a Sutphen aerial platform equipped with a pump that can deliver 2,000 gallons of water per minute.

Operating both aerial and deck gun systems requires teamwork, correct setup of equipment, and careful management of the water supply. Firefighters must also take into account the placement of the apparatus, the conditions during operations, and the needs of crew members working nearby.

The drill provided an opportunity for Egypt firefighters to review these procedures in a controlled environment and become more familiar with the equipment before responding to an actual emergency.

Regular training on firefighting apparatus helps crews better understand their tools and work effectively together during incidents that require significant water flow.

The Egypt Fire Department is based at 7478 Pittsford-Palmyra Road in Fairport and is part of the emergency services network for the Town of Perinton.
