Eaton Fire Department Remembered the 25th Anniversary of September 11

Eaton, NY — September 11 — The Eaton Fire Department honored the 25th anniversary of the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks by paying tribute to the victims, first responders, and families impacted by the events of that day.


The department expressed sympathy and ongoing prayers for those who had lost loved ones. It also acknowledged younger generations who may not have personal memories of the attacks and provided a concise overview of the events to ensure the history is preserved for future generations.


At 8:46 a.m., American Airlines Flight 11 struck the North Tower of the World Trade Center in New York City.

At 9:03 a.m., United Airlines Flight 175 hit the South Tower.At 9:37 a.m., American Airlines Flight 77 crashed into the Pentagon in Arlington, Virginia.At 10:03 a.m., United Airlines Flight 93 crashed into a field near Shanksville, Pennsylvania, after passengers and crew members took action against the hijackers.Both towers of the World Trade Center eventually collapsed, with 7 World Trade Center collapsing later that afternoon.


The attacks resulted in the deaths of 2,977 individuals, not including the 19 hijackers. Among those who lost their lives were 343 firefighters from the New York City Fire Department, 23 police officers from the New York City Police Department, and 37 officers from the Port Authority Police Department.


September 11 continues to serve as a reminder of the dedication and sacrifice of emergency responders and the significance of remembering those who gave their lives in service to others.
