This article is a direct street report from our correspondent and has not been edited by the 1st Responder newsroom.

Cazenovia, NY — September 23 — Members of the Cazenovia Fire Department took part in a vehicle extrication drill at the department’s training tower, which was organized by Lieutenants Clarke and Wood. The training was designed to teach firefighters how to rescue people who are stuck in vehicles after a crash.

The drill involved two different situations: a collision between two cars and a bus that had overturned onto its side.

Firefighters worked to safely reach and remove Rescue Randy training mannequins from the simulated crash sites. All of the mannequins were successfully removed during the exercise.

Vehicle extrication drills are important because they help firefighters practice evaluating the scene, accessing injured people, stabilizing vehicles and using specialized rescue tools.

These skills are essential when dealing with crashes where vehicles are damaged, people are trapped or vehicles are in unstable positions.

Firefighters also practiced working together and following safety rules while handling simulated crash scenes.

Regular training helps them become more familiar with rescue equipment and improves their communication during urgent operations.

The Cazenovia Fire Department expressed their appreciation to the Town of Cazenovia Highway Department for supplying the vehicles used in the drill.

The support from the highway department allowed the crews to set up realistic training environments.

The drill took place at the department’s location on 121 Albany Street in Cazenovia, New York. Ongoing hands-on training ensures that firefighters stay skilled and prepared to handle vehicle rescue situations in their area of responsibility.
