Mount Union, Pa. — October 4, 2026 — Mike Quarry, Chief of the Mount Union Fire Company, was honored for his 40 years of service in firefighting, with 21 of those years dedicated to Mount Union Fire Company.
The department featured Quarry’s career in a member spotlight published on October 4, emphasizing their dedication to supporting people during tough times and contributing to the community beyond emergency responses.
Quarry was raised in a family connected to the fire service. His father and brother both served in the Huntingdon Fire Department, and he attributes much of his early guidance in the field to former Huntingdon Hook & Ladder Chief Tim Launtz, whom he considers a mentor.
One of Quarry’s key achievements while with Mount Union was acquiring Quint 7, the company’s first aerial rescue unit. The vehicle enhanced the department’s ability to respond to structure fires and mutual-aid calls. In a 2011 report in Fire Apparatus & Emergency Equipment, Quarrythen a lieutenant and part of the truck committeewas quoted discussing the new aerial and its function in district responses. The truck was a 100-foot aerial quint manufactured by Rosenbauer.
