Pitman, PA — September 22 — Members of Mahantongo Fire Co. Fire District 10 conducted a monthly training session focused on practicing drafting operations using a dry hydrant. The exercise aimed to enhance the department's ability to supply water effectively during emergency situations in their rural area.

Mahantongo Fire Company had three dry hydrants located within its first-due area.

These hydrants were essential because many rural locations did not have access to standard fire hydrants.

During the drafting operation, firefighters utilized apparatus pumps to draw water from a nearby source and deliver it for firefighting purposes.

This skill was critical when responding to structure fires or other incidents where a steady water supply was needed without relying on municipal hydrant systems.

The training session enabled members to practice setting up equipment, handling pump operations, and ensuring continuous water flow.

Consistent practice helped firefighters gain greater familiarity with the necessary equipment and procedures to provide a dependable water supply during emergencies.

The department also expressed gratitude to Big B Mfg for installing one of the dry hydrants and granting permission for its use in training.

Having access to local water sources and appropriate training locations enabled the department to better prepare for the challenges of rural firefighting.

Water supply operations often required careful planning and coordination among the equipment and personnel involved.

Ongoing training helped Mahantongo firefighters sustain these skills and improve their readiness to serve the community.

The exercise highlighted the importance of local partnerships and regular hands-on training in supporting rural fire protection efforts.
