Dushore, PA — October 3 — Dushore Fire-Rescue and Mildred Fire Company conducted a live-fire training exercise at an acquired structure in Dushore, offering firefighters hands-on experience in a controlled environment with fire and smoke.
The training involved 18 firefighters from Dushore, Mildred, Laporte, Muncy Valley, Eldredsville, Picture Rocks, and the Williamsport Bureau of Fire.
Throughout the day, twelve staff members from the Pennsylvania State Fire Academy provided guidance, supervision, and ensured safety during the exercise.
This type of training allowed participants to practice firefighting techniques in an actual building rather than in a classroom setting.
Acquired-structure training helps firefighters enhance their skills in fire suppression, hose-line operations, use of protective gear, and teamwork coordination.
During the training, the Towanda and North Towanda fire departments provided an engine and a tanker to ensure continuous emergency response while local crews were participating.
The Wysox Fire Department also contributed by supplying an air trailer to refill self-contained breathing apparatus tanks.
Local businesses, Dushore Borough, and residents supported the event by donating food, drinks, and other supplies.
The contributing businesses were The Jolly Trolley, MaryBeth’s West Side Deli, Pam’s Restaurant, Dushore Beverage, Dushore Agway, and GTP Sylvania.
The Pennsylvania Office of the State Fire Commissioner mandates that acquired-structure training must adhere to approved procedures and safety standards.
The exercise emphasized the importance of regional collaboration, real-world instruction, and community support in preparing firefighters for emergency situations.
