Wellsburg, N.Y. — October 1, 2026 — On Thursday night, Wellsburg firefighters participated in hands-on training for vehicle extrication, concentrating on essential techniques required to safely respond to motor vehicle accidents.

The training included techniques for vehicle stabilization, removing windows, and gaining access to the engine compartment. Members also practiced breaking hood latches using hand tools, such as an axe and Halligan bar.

The exercise allowed firefighters to familiarize themselves with their equipment and rehearse methods employed in vehicle rescue operations. Securing a damaged vehicle prior to extrication is a critical measure to safeguard both firefighters and occupants during a crash.
