Wellsburg, N.Y. — September 17, 2026 — On Thursday night, Wellsburg firefighters carried out a water-supply training exercise centered on drafting from a portable water tank and tanker shuttle procedures.
The drill allowed firefighters to practice setting up a dependable water supply, drafting from a portable pond, and transferring water between a designated fill site and the training area using the department’s tanker.
Water supply operations are an important part of fireground planning in areas where municipal hydrants or other pressurized water systems are limited or unavailable. Fire departments may use portable tanks and tanker shuttles to move water from a source to the fireground and maintain a continuous supply for suppression operations. The U.S. Fire Administration identifies tanker shuttle operations as a method for supplying water when the fireground is too far from a reliable water source for relay pumping.
