North East Firefighters Reflect on the Legacy of September 11

— September 11, 2026 — Members of the fire and emergency services community commemorated the 25th anniversary of the September 11, 2001 attacks by honoring the 343 FDNY members and other first responders, military personnel, and civilians who perished. 


For firefighters nationwide, the events of September 11 remain a pivotal moment in the history of emergency services. The 9/11 attacks resulted in the deaths of 2,977 individuals, among them 343 FDNY firefighters. 


Members of the North East Fire Department, which comprises Crescent Hose Company No. 2 and Fuller Hose Company No. 1. Continue serving their community more than two decades after the attacks. Crescent Hose Company has been serving the North East region since the late 1800s and now offers fire, rescue, and EMS services in the area.
