Manchester, N.Y. — September 26 — The Manchester Fire Department carried out a tank operations drill on Saturday, during which firefighters from six different departments collaborated on water supply efforts for structure fires. The training emphasized tanker operations and the protocols used when significant quantities of water are required at an incident. The departments involved were Manchester, Farmington, Clifton Springs, Shortsville-Oaks Corner, East Palmyra, and Phelps.
During the exercise, crews explored various methods for transporting and delivering water, while testing procedures that could be applied during a major structure fire.
A consistent water flow of about 1,000 gallons per minute was maintained throughout the drill. Firefighters also evaluated a new water source and examined multiple strategies to enhance the effectiveness of the water supply system. The hands-on training allowed the participating crews to work together, pinpoint areas needing improvement, and fine-tune their tanker operations before they might be required during an actual emergency.
The Manchester Fire Department is based at 8 Clifton Street in Manchester. Public records also classify the department as a local fire protection agency in Ontario.
The Saturday drill offered a valuable training experience for all members of the six departments and highlighted the significance of coordinated water supply operations during fire responses.
