Farmington, N.Y. — September 28 — Members of the Farmington Volunteer Fire Association practiced their vehicle extrication training during a hands-on session that focused on stabilization and rescue techniques.
Firefighters practiced several vehicle extrication scenarios based on situations crews might encounter during motor vehicle crashes. The exercises emphasized safely stabilizing vehicles and using extrication tools to create access for occupants.
Members of the Manchester Fire Department also took part in the training, offering an opportunity for firefighters from neighboring departments to work together and practice coordinated operations.
ALPCO hosted the training session and provided the location for the hands-on exercises.
Training in a controlled environment allowed firefighters to review equipment use, communication and scene operations without the pressures of an active emergency.
Vehicle extrication requires crews to work together while considering vehicle stability, patient access, and firefighter safety.
Regular practice helps members maintain familiarity with tools and procedures used during technical rescue operations.
The Farmington Volunteer Fire Association operated from 1225 Hook Road in Farmington and provided emergency response services to the local community.
The training also helped the department prepare for incidents involving motorists on nearby roadways, including the New York State Thruway.
The session marked the conclusion of another week of practical training aimed at maintaining and improving extrication skills.
