The FDNY recognized 81 members of Fire Operations during a promotion ceremony, marking their advancement into new leadership and operational positions throughout the department.

The ceremony was held on Thursday, September 24, 2026, at the Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex in Staten Island, New York. FDNY Commissioner Lillian Bonsignore presided over the event, joined by Chief of Department John Esposito, department officials, promoted members, and their families.

Promotions included three Deputy Assistant Chiefs, four Deputy Chiefs, 10 Battalion Chiefs, 10 Captains, 48 Lieutenants, one Supervising Fire Marshal, three Fire Marshals, and two Marine Engineers.

Among those promoted was Michele Fitzsimmons, Chief of the FDNY Fire Academy, who advanced from Deputy Chief to Deputy Assistant Chief. Fitzsimmons became the first female member of FDNY Fire Operations to reach the rank of Deputy Chief in 2025 and remains the highest-ranking female uniformed member in Fire Operations.

During the ceremony, Chief Esposito emphasized the responsibilities that accompany promotion, reminding members that leadership involves preparing personnel for each tour and maintaining their safety throughout operations.

The newly promoted members will receive assignments to units throughout New York City, taking on additional responsibilities in fire suppression, supervision, investigations, and marine operations.
