South Salem, N.Y. — September 20 — Members of the Vista Fire Department participated in two distinct training programs during the Sunday morning session. One new member took part in the department’s Onboarding Module Training Program, while other members worked toward becoming qualified apparatus drivers for Engines 141 and 142.

The onboarding program included eight modules that introduced new members to Vista’s firefighting operations, EMS services, and department procedures.

The training combined classroom sessions with practical exercises and covered the knowledge and skills necessary for safe and effective work within the department.

The driver training program focused on preparing members to operate fire and EMS vehicles. Participants completed supervised driving sessions, reviewed the equipment carried on the apparatus, and received instruction on the pump panels used on the fire engines.

Vista’s driver qualification process involved several vehicles. Members started with Utility 256, then moved on to the ambulances, followed by Engine 142, Engine 141, and Tanker 4.The department required members to complete both driving time and vehicle-specific training before being qualified as drivers.

During the September 20 session, members worked directly with Engine 141 and Engine 142 operations. This training gave firefighters more experience with apparatus equipment, pump controls, and vehicle operation.

The session helped support Vista’s continued efforts to prepare new and developing members for fire and EMS assignments.
