South Salem, N.Y. — September 14 — Members of the Vista Fire Department conducted training on Monday night, focusing on supporting paramedics for EMS personnel and practicing ground ladder operations for firefighters.
During the EMS portion of the training, Vista personnel reviewed how EMTs assist paramedics during advanced life support calls.
The session included instruction on the equipment used in emergency responses, patient assessment, cardiac monitoring, equipment setup, patient movement, and ongoing care during transport. Special attention was given to communication and teamwork between EMTs and paramedics.
In the fire training segment, Vista firefighters practiced ground ladder operations. They reviewed ladder selection, carrying and raising techniques, proper placement, and climbing procedures. They also practiced working from ladders while carrying tools and learned how ladders are used for access, ventilation, rescue, and emergency egress during structure fires.
Regular training sessions are used by the department to maintain practical skills for both fire and EMS operations.
Ladder training helped firefighters enhance their ability to deploy and use equipment safely and efficiently during emergency situations.
The training session on September 14 also allowed firefighters and EMS personnel to practice their assigned roles while working together as coordinated emergency response teams.
This combined training improved the department’s readiness for medical emergencies, structure fires, and other incidents that require collaboration between Vista’s fire and EMS personnel.
