Stewartstown, PA. — September 22 — Ten members from the Eureka Volunteer Fire Department came together at a building they had acquired in their first-due area to take part in a hands-on training session focused on essential fireground operations.
The firefighters practiced Vent, Enter, Search (VES) procedures, downed firefighter drills, and hose line deployment exercises.
This training enabled them to work through a structure, find and rescue a firefighter in distress, and advance hose lines into a building.
The building they used provided a controlled setting where the crews could practice these skills in realistic conditions.
Repeating these hands-on drills helped the members stay familiar with their equipment, communication methods, and how to coordinate during a fire incident.
The VES training involved entering a structure through an accessible opening to carry out a focused search when the situation and incident strategy required it. The downed firefighter training also allowed the crews to review the procedures for locating and removing a firefighter who was unable to exit on their own.
The Eureka Volunteer Fire Department operated from 82 North Main Street in Stewartstown and provided fire and emergency response services to the surrounding community.
Regular training continues to be a vital part of ensuring that the department is always ready for operations. The September 22 session gave the members a chance to strengthen their individual skills while working as a team. These exercises also helped the firefighters prepare for the various conditions they might face during a real structure fire.
