York, PA. — September 9 —The York City Department of Fire/Rescue Services held its yearly vehicle rescue training at Baughman’s U-Pull-It, offering firefighters a chance to practice vehicle extrication techniques on real vehicles.
Baughman’s U-Pull-It offered the training space and provided several vehicles for the fire crews to use during the exercises.
The York-based business, situated at 441 Eberts Lane, keeps a large collection of vehicles, making it a suitable location for practical rescue training. The company stated it has over 1,200 vehicles in stock and continues to add to its inventory regularly.
The training enabled firefighters to perform vehicle rescue operations in a controlled environment, using tools and methods that may be required in severe motor vehicle accidents.
Hands-on practice helps the crews stay skilled in tasks like vehicle stabilization, accessing the vehicle, and safely removing patients.
Vehicle rescue training is a key part of fire and rescue services because modern vehicles can pose unique challenges in terms of construction and access during emergencies.
Typical training programs for passenger vehicle rescue include awareness, operational procedures, and technician-level skills.
These annual drills gave York City firefighters valuable hands-on experience and helped them improve their ability to respond safely and effectively to future vehicle rescue situations.
