Lehighton, PA - Demonstrating a high level of operational dedication and volunteer engagement, 30 members of the Lehighton Fire Department took part in intensive hands-on training Monday evening, focusing on specialized pumping, rural water delivery, and interior suppression tactics.
On the night of September 14, 2026, the department split its large turnout across multiple skill stations and formal coursework to cover critical aspects of modern engine company operations.
Three personnel traveled off-site to represent the department at the opening session of the advanced Pumps 2 certification program hosted by Carbon County emergency training coordinators. Meanwhile, the remaining 27 participating members divided into operational groups at the station to tackle comprehensive practical evolutions.
Crews worked through dedicated rotations covering driver-operator competencies, refining apparatus maneuvering, vehicle spotting, and precision pump panel operations under simulated fireground pressures. Firefighters also practiced securing water from static, unpressurized sources—a vital skill requiring drafting setups from ponds or portable tanks to guarantee uninterrupted water shuttles in areas without municipal hydrants. Concurrently, attack teams drilled on rapid hoseline deployment, nozzle control, and advancement techniques through restrictive structural layouts.
Department officials commended the impressive 30-member attendance, noting that regular, rigorous training keeps local volunteers prepared to respond effectively when emergencies strike. The department continues to recruit new volunteers and encourages anyone interested in serving the community to reach out directly to the company.
