Binghamton, N.Y. — September 7, 2026 — Labor Day provided an opportunity Monday to recognize workers across the country, including the firefighters, EMS providers, dispatchers and law enforcement officers who continue providing public safety services while many others have the day off.
Labor Day is observed on the first Monday in September and was established as a federal holiday in 1894. The U.S. Department of Labor describes the holiday as a celebration of the social and economic achievements of American workers.
In Binghamton, the holiday also highlighted the work of the city's public safety personnel. The Binghamton Fire Department recognized its professional firefighters for their daily work protecting residents, businesses and visitors throughout the city.
