— September 5, 2026 — Firefighters and other first responders gathered at East Whiteland Fire Company Station 5 on Saturday to recognize Brian Hughes as he completed his final shift with the department and began his retirement.

Members of the East Whiteland Fire Company, Berwyn Fire Company and East Whiteland Township Professional Firefighters joined Hughes at Station 5 to mark the occasion. The gathering recognized a career that included service in fire, EMS and law enforcement across Chester County.

Hughes has been a part-time employee with the Berwyn Fire Company since 2000 and is a life member of the organization, according to the department's Sept. 6 announcement. He has also served with East Whiteland as a full-time firefighter/EMT. The East Whiteland Fire Association's current personnel listing identifies Hughes as a full-time FF/ EMT assigned to the A Platoon.

His connection to East Whiteland Fire Company also goes back many years. A 2018 department report identified Hughes as a firefighter/ EMT who participated in community fire-safety education at Station 5.

Over the years, Hughes has worked in several areas of emergency services in Chester County. Public records also document his involvement with law enforcement and emergency medical services, including recognition from the Chester County EMS Council.
