Coeymans, N.Y. — September 11 — Coeymans Fire Company #1 commemorated the 25th anniversary of the September 11, 2001 attacks by honoring the civilians and emergency responders who lost their lives on that day.

Over 3,000 people were killed in the attacks in New York City, at the Pentagon, and in Pennsylvania. The emergency services community experienced significant losses, including 343 New York City firefighters, along with police officers, emergency medical services personnel, and other responders.

The 9/11 Memorial & Museum’s 2026 commemoration featured the reading of the names of those who were killed in the attacks. Seven moments of silence were observed, including a new moment of silence dedicated to people who later died from illnesses and injuries related to the attacks and their aftermath.

Thousands of firefighters, police officers, rescue workers, and other personnel participated in rescue, recovery, and relief efforts at Ground Zero.

Many of these responders and recovery workers later developed health issues connected to their service.

Coeymans Fire Company #1 has served the Coeymans Fire District since 1889 and has continued to provide emergency services within the community.

The 25th anniversary offered the emergency services community an opportunity to remember those who were lost and to acknowledge the responders who continued their vital work in the years that followed.
