Coeymans, N.Y. — September 7 — Coeymans Fire Company #1 honored the firefighters, EMS staff, police officers, and other emergency service workers who stayed on duty during the Labor Day holiday. While many workers spent September 7th with their loved ones, emergency personnel kept working to serve their communities. Fire and EMS agencies operate 24/7, including weekends and holidays, to make sure that staff and equipment are ready when emergencies occur.
Labor Day was made a federal holiday in 1894 to acknowledge the hard work and accomplishments of American workers.
New York was one of the first states to observe the holiday before it became a national event.
For Coeymans Fire Company #1, the holiday also brought attention to the important role of volunteer emergency workers.
The Town of Coeymans has understood the importance of attracting and keeping volunteer firefighters and emergency medical personnel, as they offer vital protection by giving their time to the community.
Coeymans Fire Company #1 has been serving its fire district since 1889, providing fire protection and emergency response in the Coeymans area.
The Labor Day observance reminded everyone that emergency services continue to operate even when many community members are away from work, with responders staying on call even when separated from their families.
