York Springs, PA. — September 11 — The York Springs Fire Company No.1 commemorated the 25th anniversary of the September 11, 2001 attacks by honoring the nearly 3,000 individuals who lost their lives and the emergency responders who perished while helping during the attacks.

The attacks led to the deaths of 2,977 people, including 343 New York City firefighters, 23 NYPD officers, and 37 Port Authority police officers. A total of 412 emergency workers were killed that day, as noted by the 9/11 National Memorial Trail.

The anniversary also highlighted the lasting effects on firefighters, police officers, EMS personnel, and other workers who were part of the rescue and recovery efforts.

The 9/11 Memorial & Museum reported that thousands of first responders, recovery workers, and others later passed away from illnesses connected to the attacks and their aftermath.

In 2026, the 9/11 Memorial & Museum introduced a seventh moment of silence during its annual ceremony to honor those who died from 9/11-related illnesses and injuries.

The event maintained the tradition of remembering those who were killed at the World Trade Center, Pentagon, and the crash site of Flight 93.

For the York Springs Fire Company No. 1 and the wider emergency services community, September 11 continues to be a day dedicated to remembering the members who gave their lives while serving others.
