Cherry Hill Fire Department Promoted Zach Houck to Battalion Chief

Cherry Hill, N.J. — September 16 — The Cherry Hill Fire Department conducted a promotional ceremony on September 16 to honor Zach Houck's promotion to the rank of battalion chief.


Houck began his career with the department in 2006 after completing Recruit Class 06-01. Throughout his time as a firefighter, he served with Ladder 13, Engine 13, Squad 13, Engine 13, and Squad 13. He was promoted to the rank of lieutenant in 2019 and worked with Squad 13 and Squad 13.


During this time, he was responsible for overseeing two recruit academies and department-wide training programs before moving to Ladder 13.


Houck also played an active role in supporting the professional growth of firefighters within the department by teaching various training courses.

He served as the department’s lead grant writer, helping secure funding and other resources for the fire department.


Houck holds a bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice from St. Joseph’s University and a master’s degree in Public Administration from the University of Pennsylvania.


The Cherry Hill Fire Department, located at 1100 Marlkress Rd., acknowledged Houck’s dedication and extensive experience as he transitioned into his new leadership role.

The Office of the Fire Chief and the Cherry Hill Board of Fire Commissioners extended their congratulations to Battalion Chief Houck and wished him continued success in his new position.
