Cherry Hill, N.J. — September 11 — The Cherry Hill Fire Department commemorated the 25th anniversary of the September 11, 2001 attacks by honoring the civilians, firefighters, police officers, EMTs, and other emergency service workers who lost their lives on that day.
Twenty-five years after the attacks, the events of September 11 remain a significant part of fire service history.
Approximately 1,000 firefighters and around 2,000 police officers responded to the World Trade Center within the first hour, along with over 100 ambulances. This response became the largest emergency mobilization in New York City's history.
The Fire Department of New York lost 343 firefighters, while 37 officers from the Port Authority Police Department and 23 officers from the New York Police Department also perished. In total, 441 first responders from more than 30 agencies were killed on September 11.
The Cherry Hill Fire Department, based at 1100 Marlkress Rd., Cherry Hill, continued to emphasize the importance of remembering those who served during the attacks and the subsequent recovery efforts.
The department also participated with fire and emergency service agencies nationwide in honoring the families, survivors, and responders whose lives were deeply affected by 9/11.
The 25th anniversary offered the fire service another chance to honor the fallen and to ensure the lessons of that day are preserved for future generations of emergency responders.
