Exeter TWP, PA - While many spent Labor Day weekend relaxing, volunteers from the Exeter Township Volunteer Fire Department suited up in full turnouts on Saturday, undergoing high-heat live structural burn evolutions at the Berks County Fire Training Center.
On Saturday, September 5, 2026, Exeter crews took advantage of the holiday break to sharpen foundational fireground skills in a controlled, live-fire environment. Firefighters conducted repeated interior attack progressions, practicing reading thermal smoke layers, managing heat conditions, coordinating hoseline advances through tight burn corridors, and executing primary search techniques under heavy smoke and real flame impingement.
The intensive weekend session marked the fifth of six scheduled structural live burns planned for the department in 2026. Department leaders emphasize that these rigorous evolutions ensure personnel maintain top-tier operational readiness and instinctual tactical decision-making when facing actual structural fires in the community.
