Labor Day Highlighted the Work Behind the Call

Bordentown, N.J. — September 7 — Labor Day was celebrated on Monday as communities throughout the country honored the efforts of American workers, including firefighters, emergency medical staff, dispatchers, and other public safety professionals.
For the members of Bordentown Township Fire District #2, located at 262 Crosswicks Road in Bordentown, the holiday offered a chance to acknowledge the work of emergency service personnel throughout the year.
The New Jersey Division of Fire Safety recognized the district as a career fire department that serves Bordentown Township.According to current state records, the department has 14 career firefighters and four company officers.
Labor Day originated from the labor movement in the late 1800s.
The first Labor Day celebration took place in New York City on September 5, 1882.Congress established the first Monday in September as a federal holiday in 1894.New Jersey was one of the states that had already adopted the holiday before it became a national observance.
For emergency service workers, the holiday also served to honor careers and volunteer service that require training, teamwork, and a dedication to serving the public.
Firefighters and emergency medical personnel continued to respond to emergencies, while many others spent the day with family and friends.
Labor Day reminded everyone of the important role workers play in ensuring that communities function and remain safe.
