Washington, N.J. — September 9 — Members of the Washington Township Fire Department greeted runners taking part in the 2026 Great American Relay as they traveled toward New York City to commemorate the 25th anniversary of September 11.
The Great American Relay was a seven-day tribute run honoring the 9/11 attacks, starting on September 5 at the Flight 93 Memorial in Pennsylvania and passing through multiple states before arriving at the World Trade Center site in New York on September 11. The 2026 event commemorated the 25th anniversary of the attacks.
Firefighters from Washington Township greeted the runners in New Jersey, creating a local link between the fire service and a group traveling to Ground Zero to pay tribute to those lost on September 11, 2001.
