Wanaque Firefighters Marked the 25th Anniversary of 9/11

Wanaque, NJ — September 11 — The Wanaque Borough Fire Department, located on Ringwood Avenue in Wanaque, honored the 2,977 individuals who lost their lives during the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001. This included firefighters, police officers, emergency medical services personnel, and other first responders who were present at the event.
The attacks occurred in New York City, at the Pentagon in Washington, D.C., and near Shanksville, Pennsylvania.
According to the National September 11 Memorial & Museum, 343 firefighters from the New York Fire Department, 23 officers from the New York Police Department, and 37 officers from the Port Authority Police Department were among the first responders who perished that day.In total, 441 first responders from over 30 different agencies lost their lives on September 11.
Nearly 1,000 firefighters and about 2,000 police officers responded to the World Trade Center.
During the first hour after the attacks, more than 100 ambulances were dispatched to the site.These responders played a crucial role in evacuating civilians, treating the injured, and searching the buildings.
The response to the attacks continued for many months.
Tens of thousands of rescue, recovery, and relief workers worked in New York, Arlington, and Somerset County, Pennsylvania.Many were exposed to hazardous conditions, and some later developed illnesses or died as a result of 9/11-related health issues.
The observance by the Wanaque Borough Fire Department honored those who were lost, recognized the bravery of those who responded, and acknowledged the families who continue to remember them.
