Allamuchy, NJ — September 15 — The Allamuchy Fire Department, located at 284 Alphano Road in Allamuchy, New Jersey, conducted a Medically Directed Rescue training session in collaboration with the Allamuchy-Green First Aid Squad. The training emphasized the teamwork and coordination needed between medical and rescue personnel during vehicle extrication situations.
The classroom portion of the training was led by Dr. Michael Berkenbush from Atlantic Health Training.Atlantic Health describes Dr.Berkenbush as an emergency medicine physician with extensive experience in emergency medical services and clinical education.
Following the classroom instruction, participants moved to hands-on exercises. Firefighters and EMS personnel participated in three practical extrication drills, which allowed them to practice responding to various rescue challenges while using their equipment and managing patient care effectively.
Members also practiced extrication techniques on a Tesla vehicle. This opportunity enabled responders to gain experience with the unique construction and rescue considerations of newer vehicles, which may differ from those found in older models.
The Allamuchy Fire Department and the Allamuchy-Green First Aid Squad have previously conducted joint rescue drills, including scenarios involving vehicle entrapment and multiple-patient situations.
They have also collaborated during real-life highway extrication incidents.
The training offered responders additional practice in communication, extrication techniques, patient access, and the coordination of fire and EMS operations.
