Bethel Park, PA - Community members enrolled in the Bethel Park Volunteer Fire Company’s Citizens Fire Academy took to the drill ground this past week, diving into an intensive, hands-on session centered on core engine company operations.
The session offered participants an inside look at the foundational skills of structural firefighting. Under the direct guidance of veteran volunteer firefighters, academy students suited up to learn how to deploy and stretch initial attack lines directly from the apparatus, navigate charged hoselines into simulated tactical positions, and properly operate nozzle bails to flow water under pressure.
Beyond the adrenaline of flowing water, participants were introduced to the physical realities of post-incident operations. Instructors walked recruits through the essential process of draining water weight from hundreds of feet of heavy hose, executing proper folds, and reloading the beds on the apparatus to ensure frontline rigs are immediately ready to respond to the next emergency.
Fire company leadership praised both the volunteer members who gave their time to instruct and the academy participants for their dedication, emphasizing that these immersive sessions give local residents a clear understanding of the rigorous training, teamwork, and effort required on every call across Bethel Park
