Firefighter Hunzinger Received His Black Shield

Wildwood, N.J. — September 30 — The City of Wildwood Fire Department honored Firefighter Chase Hunzinger after he successfully completed his one-year probationary period with the department.


Hunzinger received his black shield during a ceremony in the afternoon, presented by Capt. Ryan Troiano. This event signified the end of his probationary year and marked another milestone in his career with the Wildwood Fire Department.


According to the department's 2025 annual report, Hunzinger joined Wildwood after previously working as a career firefighter with the Peoria, Arizona Fire & Medical Department. He was assigned to the department's C Platoon under the command of Capt. Ryan Troiano.


The department's current career-division roster shows Hunzinger listed with the C Platoon, alongside Troiano and other career firefighters. A probationary period allows a new firefighter time to fulfill department requirements, gain hands-on experience, and show the skills necessary for emergency operations.

Successfully completing this period is an important step toward continued service within the department.


The Wildwood Fire Department continues to provide fire protection and emergency response services to the city from its Wildwood operations.
