Marmora, N.J. — September 8 — Members of the Marmora Volunteer Fire Co.participated in Rapid Intervention Team training, which focused on locating, packing, and extracting a firefighter who had fallen into a dangerous environment.

During the training, firefighters practiced using a RIT bag and FAST board while conducting a simulated firefighter rescue.

They also carried out wall breaches to gain entry into a structure where a firefighter had been trapped or was unable to move.

Once access was secured, firefighters practiced attaching the simulated downed firefighter to the RIT bag system when necessary.

The crew then worked together to safely package and remove the victim from the simulated hazardous setting.

The RIT training provided members with the chance to practice essential tasks involved in assisting a firefighter during an interior operation.

The drills also helped reinforce effective communication, proper handling of equipment, and coordinated movement during a rescue.

Rapid Intervention Team operations demand that firefighters act quickly while keeping control of their gear and surroundings.

Training in rescue systems and firefighter removal techniques allowed members to become more familiar with the equipment used during these critical operations.

The Marmora Volunteer Fire Co. conducted the training from its station located at 40 N. Old Tuckahoe Road in Marmora. The department continues to use hands-on training to ensure preparedness for fireground emergencies and firefighter rescue situations.
