Dennisville, N.J. — September 11 — The Dennis Volunteer Fire Company commemorated the 25th anniversary of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks by honoring the individuals who lost their lives, including the 343 New York City firefighters who were killed while responding to the attacks.

This occasion allowed members of the fire service to reflect on the firefighters, police officers, emergency medical workers, and civilians who perished on that day.

Firefighters from various parts of the country traveled to New York City to assist in the search, rescue, and recovery efforts following the attacks.

The National September 11 Memorial & Museum stated that a total of 2,983 people were killed in the September 11, 2001 attacks and the 1993 World Trade Center bombing.

The museum also highlighted that hundreds of thousands of responders, recovery workers, and volunteers were involved in the efforts after the attacks.

The 2026 anniversary also honored responders and others who later died from illnesses connected to their work at the World Trade Center site. A seventh moment of silence was included in the commemoration to honor those who passed away from such illnesses.

The Dennis Volunteer Fire Company, located at 721 Petersburg Road in Dennisville, continued to serve its community while upholding the tradition of remembering those who made the ultimate sacrifice.
