Saddle River, N.J. — September 8 — Members of the Saddle River Fire Department participated in a training session at Mahwah Fire Company 4, focusing on mask confidence, SCBA operations, and firefighter rescue techniques.
During the session, firefighters engaged in a mask confidence course that simulated low-visibility environments.
They practiced moving through restricted areas while wearing SCBA gear and worked on staying aware of their surroundings and managing their air supply effectively.
The training then moved on to a Rapid Intervention Team (RIT) exercise.
Firefighters practiced skills needed when a firefighter is lost, disoriented, trapped, or requires help during an interior operation.
Training in mask confidence and air management plays a critical role in firefighter survival.
Many training programs use confined spaces, limited visibility, and entanglement scenarios to help firefighters become accustomed to working with SCBA equipment.
The Saddle River Fire Department regularly conducts hands-on drills to keep operational skills sharp.
The department has also previously trained its members on RIT procedures, including SCBA conversions, firefighter CPR, and equipment used to extricate downed firefighters.
Mahwah Fire Company 4 is part of the Mahwah Fire Department and is based at 50 Fardale Avenue. The training at Mahwah gave Saddle River firefighters additional practice in low-visibility movement, air management, and RIT response.
