Thermal Imaging and Firefighter Rescue Scenarios Highlight Saddle River Training Evolution

Saddle River, NJ - Members of the Saddle River Fire Department sharpened essential interior firefighting skills this week during comprehensive annual live burn training at the Bergenfield Fire Training Center.

Operating under realistic structural fire conditions, firefighters cycled through rigorous evolutions centered on interior suppression, victim rescue, and firefighter survival. Crews focused heavily on advancing charged handlines using "flow-and-move" techniques to knock down heavy fire while pushing into simulated structures.

Firefighters also conducted aggressive primary search operations in zero-visibility, high-heat environments, deploying thermal imaging cameras to navigate floor plans, identify concealed heat sources, and locate trapped victims.

In addition to fire suppression and search evolutions, personnel drilled extensively on Rapid Intervention Team (RIT) operations, practicing specialized search, air-supply management, and extrication techniques required to rescue downed or trapped firefighters under live fire conditions.

Department officials emphasized that regular, realistic live-burn training ensures responders maintain the peak tactical readiness and precision needed to safeguard the Saddle River community.
