Firefighters Practiced Hose, Search and Rescue Operations

Fair Lawn, N.J. — September 8 — The Fair Lawn Fire Department’s Company 4 participated in a combined training exercise with the Glen Rock Fire Department as part of their continued efforts to prepare for emergency situations that require mutual-aid cooperation.

The firefighters trained at the Fair Lawn Fire Department Training Center, where personnel from both departments engaged in various practical drills. These exercises involved setting up water lines, searching for victims, and safely removing simulated casualties from a building to a ladder truck.

This training allowed the firefighters to practice working as a team, communicating effectively during operations, and getting accustomed to each other’s equipment and standard operating procedures. These abilities are essential when departments collaborate to respond to fires and other urgent incidents.

Fair Lawn and Glen Rock were members of pre-existing mutual-aid agreements within Bergen County.

Fair Lawn’s municipal code identified the department as part of regional mutual-aid organizations, which offer support between nearby communities during fire incidents, disasters, and other emergencies.

The Fair Lawn Fire Department also operated its training center located on Saddle River Road, a facility that was made available for use by neighboring departments, including Glen Rock. A prior agreement specifically permitted Glen Rock firefighters to use the Fair Lawn training center and participate in its emergency vehicle driving course.

The joint training exercise offered both departments real-world experience and strengthened coordination between local fire companies.
