Ocean Gate Fire Department Honored Ex-Chief Glenn Vahey

Ocean Gate, N.J. — September 12 — Members of the Ocean Gate Fire Department honored Ex-Chief Glenn Vahey after his passing, remembering his long dedication to the fire service and the local community.
Vahey started his volunteer firefighting journey in January 1982 and later became Fire Chief of the Ocean Gate Fire Department in 1994.
He also worked with the Pine Beach and Pinewald fire companies and taught at the Ocean County Fire Academy. His career involved leading, training, and supporting firefighters across multiple local departments.
Vahey was awarded Fireman of the Year in both 1993 and 1994, highlighting his significant contributions to the Ocean Gate department.
His service was part of a long tradition of volunteer firefighting in the area.The Ocean Gate Fire Department was an all-volunteer organization that provided fire protection, water rescue, and medical response services.
The department operated from its station at 33 E. Arverne Ave. and was part of Ocean County's network of volunteer fire companies.
Those who served with Vahey remembered his strong leadership and deep commitment to the fire service, as his career was celebrated by his fellow firefighters.
