Andover Township Firefighters Completed Extrication Training

Newton, N.J. — September 21 — Members of the Andover Township Volunteer Fire Department participated in a practical training session to enhance their ability to extricate individuals from damaged vehicles. During the drill, firefighters practiced various tools and methods used to safely reach and remove patients from vehicles. The training covered essential steps such as stabilizing the vehicle, gaining access, using cutting and spreading tools, and working together to extract patients. Firefighters also used the Jaws of Life and other hydraulic rescue devices in a controlled environment to simulate real-life scenarios.

This exercise allowed the team to go through the complete process of a vehicle rescue while emphasizing effective communication, proper use of equipment, and maintaining a safe scene.

Consistent hands-on training helps the crew stay proficient with their tools and ready to respond to emergencies on the road.

The Andover Township Fire Department was an all-volunteer organization that provided emergency fire and rescue services to the local community.

The department had its main station located on Limecrest Road and another station on Mount Nebo Road. According to department records, members were available 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

The department also expressed gratitude to D&E Service for supplying the vehicles used during the training, which offered firefighters realistic conditions to practice their extrication techniques.
